One of the messages within the lyrics to True Colors by Cyndi Lauper is "if this world makes you crazy and you've taken all you can bear you call me up because you know I'll be there". Cyndi Lauper not only sings this in the song, but I believe she really means it. She has posted a new video message regarding the suicide epidemic of our lgbt youth recently. Imagine for a moment making the decision to take your life because you've been bullied to the point of seeing no possible alternative. Can you imagine this? Please watch the video clip below, listen to the song, and let me tell you more about organizations reaching out to lgbt youth.
Please listen to this song by Cyndi Lauper, "True Colors". Really "listen" to the meaning of the lyrics. This song has a great message and every one of us need to hear it. (I've posted the lyrics below if you are hearing impaired or would like to read them.)

"TRUE COLORS" LYRICS
You with the sad eyes
don't be discouraged
oh I realize
it's hard to take courage
in a world full of people
you can lose sight of it all
and the darkness inside you
can make you fell so small
But I see your true colors
shining through
I see your true colors
and that's why I love you
so don't be afraid to let them show
your true colors
true colors are beautiful
like a rainbow
Show me a smile then
don't be unhappy, can't remember
when I last saw you laughing
if this world makes you crazy
and you've taken all you can bear
you call me up
because you know I'll be there
And I'll see your true colors
shining through
I see your true colors
and that's why I love you
so don't be afraid to let them show
your true colors
true colors are beautiful
like a rainbow
“I believe all Americans who believe in freedom, tolerance and human rights have a responsibility to oppose bigotry and prejudice based on sexual orientation.”

Lovely. Cyndi is one of my personal heroes.
ReplyDeleteI'm also an advocate for Mental Illness Awareness. This week - Oct. 3-9th is Mental Illness Awareness Week
95% of all suicide victims have mental illness/major depressive disorder making stressors (including bullying) even more likely to trigger suicide.
Important to learns the risk factors and signs of mental illness/depression.
